My education in movement started when I was 5 years old taking my first ballet class. Ever since then I have lived and breathed exercise through functional movement. I went on to dance for 17 more years and my training in ballet showed me how to connect deeper into my body and understand the importance of form and the complexity of the body. When looking to improve my strength while staying lean and flexible I was introduced to Pilates. I began to incorporate Pilates into my daily routine and quickly saw the difference it made on my dancing and kept me from injuries that so many of my piers were facing. My dancing career took me to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, then Richmond, Virginia and on back to Austin, Texas where I decided to get my Power Pilates mat and Peak Pilates Comprehensive certification.

Teaching since 2007 I have seem the changes and impact it has made on my clients' lives. I feel like it's the "magic" exercise. No matter where you are in life, Pilates can meet you there. I keep growing and learning every year from each client that I have had the pleasure to spend time with. My most favorite success stories come from people who walk through my door that have been battling with exercise due to injuries or chronic pain and I can put movement back in their life. Movement can heal our bodies and clear our heads. I believe in practicing what you preach and I try to live and active and healthy lifestyle.

In 2012 I had my first baby and got to experience exercise pre and post natal. It made a huge difference on how I felt and getting back into shape after baby. Going through an Exercise Through Pregnancy certification and 2 pregnancies myself, I specialize in pre and post natal Pilates that is safe and effective for my clients expecting a new addition to the family .I also LOVE a challenge. I look forward to meeting with new clients and creating a plan their body needs

Opening Pilates 512 was a dream of mine to spread the word of Pilates after it had made such a big impact on my life and the people I have worked with through the years. I hope I can make the world a healthier place, where we just don't live longer, but live and feel better!

Meet Shelby McCalla, Certified Pilates Instructor

At 15, I found out that I had scoliosis or curvature of the spine. My back would spasm so bad that I could not continue to run or play soccer. After having the opportunity to shadow a family friend who was a physical therapist, I decided it was the career for me. Upon completing my Bachelor of Arts in Sports Medicine at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California; I relocated to southern California and found myself working at a Pilates-based physical therapy clinic. I fell in love with Pilates. It gave me the ability to exercise in a safe environment, and kept my back pain free! After finishing my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine in San Marcos, California; I decided it was time to pursue my Pilates certification. In 2017, I completed my Polestar Pilates Comprehensive Certification and in 2018 passed the Pilates Method Alliance Examination and became a Certified Pilates Instructor. Through both physical therapy and Pilates I have not only seen how better I feel in my body, but I have also seen huge transformations in my patients and clients. After moving to the Austin, Texas area in late 2017, I was anxious to continue my practice of Pilates and found Brittany and Pilates 512. It was a perfect fit from day one and I am so excited to join the team at Pilates 512!
